Most of our recipients are local families on government subsidies whose food stamp benefits do not suffice for an entire month. As these food stamps run out by the third week of the month, Rahima Foundation steps in to supplement basic food items such as rice, flour, grains, pasta, cooking oil, tuna, halal chicken, halal meat, eggs, canned food, bread, pastries, and fresh produce (seasonal vegetables and fruits). In order to be fair and equitable to all our recipients, we purchase the items in bulk and distribute the same items to all the families. Mainly our clients are residents of south bay, but we also assist people from neighboring communities such as Union City, Fremont, Hayward, San Lorenzo, Oakland, Concord, Richmond, Alameda, and San Francisco. All food items we purchase are with the Sadaqah donations received by Rahima. Since 2004, we have had a partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, that provides us fresh produce, eggs, rice, canned food, and some dry goods like pasta and cereal. We purchase the remaining items on our menu with the Sadaqah donations received by Rahima. This includes flour, halal chicken, oil, eggs, beans, lentils, and tea. Once every quarter we also provide hygiene packs consisting of toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, soap, and toilet paper. We are currently providing over 25,000 lbs of groceries to about 400 families every month.
