Founder, & Chairperson, Board of Directors
Habibe Husain came to the United States for a year in 1962 as a high school foreign exchange student from Turkey. She came back to attend college in 1964 where she got her degree in Pharmacy from Temple University in Philadelphia and also met her husband of over 45 years. She married and chose to become a full-time mother upon the birth of her twins. She moved to the Bay Area with her family in 1973 and became a community volunteer worker. Habibe Husain has made many contributions to the Bay Area community, the most valuable of which has been in the service to the poor and needy through the establishment of Rahima Charitable Foundation.
For the past 22 years, hundreds of refugee families from Bosnia, Somalia, Afghanistan and other countries have benefited from this organization. She is a pillar of the community, a person of great integrity and inner strength. Her scrupulousness in spending public funds and the dignity with which she treats every individual are the hallmarks of her character. Habibe Husain is the mother of 3 grown children and grandmother of 4 lovely grandchildren.
Omair Farooqui, Board Member
Omair Farooqui is a business attorney with significant experience working with nonprofit organizations with regards to inception, governance, and finance. He represents numerous mosques, temples, churches and a wide variety of public benefit entities. Omair began practicing law in 2000 and worked for a large national firm prior to co-founding Ellahie & Farooqui LLP in 2008. At Ellahie & Farooqui, Omair manages the High Technology Practice group, consisting of professionals with experience in Corporate, Intellectual Property, Employment and Immigration law.
